Cracking Down on Illegal Immigration
President Trump has taken historic action to stop illegal immigration, but Texans know what would happen if weak leadership were to return to Washington. Dan Hunt will make sure Texas is never caught off guard again. As State Representative, he’ll fight to pass safeguards that allow Texas to take control of our border and defend our state, regardless of who’s in the White House. Texas cannot afford to wait for permission to protect its people.
Securing Our Water
Access to clean, reliable water is critical for rural Texas. Dan will fight for state investment in infrastructure, including rural water systems, drought resilience, and brackish water development. He’ll ensure District 8’s needs are no longer ignored by urban-centered policy in Austin. Water security is Texas security.
Cutting Property Taxes
Texans are being crushed by skyrocketing property taxes. In the Legislature, Dan will champion real, lasting property tax relief by capping appraisals, cutting wasteful local spending, and empowering voters to hold taxing entities accountable. Dan believes no Texan should be taxed out of their home and is ready to work until property taxes are eliminated all together.
Defending Our Second Amendment Rights
In Texas, the right to bear arms is sacred. Dan will oppose any legislation that infringes on the Second Amendment, protect constitutional carry, and defend law-abiding gun owners from government overreach. As a former prosecutor and lifelong conservative, Dan knows that armed Texans are safe Texans.
Strengthening Education
Texas students need strong academics—not political agendas. Dan will fight to restore academic excellence in Texas classrooms by banning the STAAR test, which punishes students and teachers with a one-size-fits-all system that fails our children. Dan will always defend a parent's right to choose the best education for their child, fight liberal indoctrination in every classroom, and ensure public schools get back to the basics of reading, writing, mathematics, science, and real American history.
Empowering Local Businesses
Small businesses form the backbone of Texas and House District 8. As a small business owner, Dan understands the unique challenges many in his community face every day. He will fight to cut bureaucratic red tape and fuel economic development. It's time to give East Texas small businesses more autonomy to provide for their families and communities.
